God's retreat from cosmology

I don't know who this Tyson character is but his speech appears full of contradiction. He seemingly proves that god is just a universal variable we use for something we don't yet understand but at the same time seems to argue that that's exactly why god exists. There's an air of self-denial about him.

He is not saying god exists, he is saying god is an explanation used by even brilliant scientists when the hit the limits of their own knowledge.

I watched it again... my bad :) The first time I watched it I wasn't sure what angle he was coming from, I thought he was one of those "science proves religion" people; that talk of "god always being there" confused me. Then I thought he was arguing for the case to teach intelligent design in schools. I see he was being more subtle than that. Cheers for the heads-up :)
